Our Little Girl...Sedated, Poked, & Praded

Lexi had to go into the hospital today to get an ultrasound on her kidneys to see what caused the UTI she got last week. She did ok during that because she could keep her clothes on and it wasnt painful. Next was the part I was not expecting...I knew they had to give her a catheter and put dye in her bladder to see if it flowed back up into her kidneys. What I was not prepared for was her having to be put under for the procedure. No one had told us this and we definetly werent expecting this extensive of a procedure. I guess when we had to report to Same Day Surgery that should have tiped us off.

The hardest part for me was when the Drs took her from Scott and I to take her into the OR (Operating Room) to put her under. Then they wheeled her out on the hospital bed all knocked out. It was so sad to see her like that, the worst thing was they couldnt get the IV in her arm so they had to put it in her head. I couldnt contain myself. Just thinking about it again makes me tear up.

Next they took her into the radiation room and started the procedure. The nurses couldnt get the catheter in right away so Lexi, even though she was under, was still aware of what was going on just cried and cried. They pumped the dye into her bladder and we waited. Finally she relieved herself and we watched to see if the dye went back up into her kidneys. The good news is that nothing happened. The dye was released like normal. Lexi was so distraught at this point because she had not been allowed to eat since 3 am so she was beyond famished at this point.

We were finally able to hold her and feed her. We are still waiting for her results from the kidney ultrasound but so far everything looks ok. We are being very optimistic about it. What trauma to have to go through at such a young age. I could say the same thing for myself, all the trauma I have experienced because of what she had to go through is enough to make you crazy. The good thing out of all of this is she will never remember going through it until I show her all the pictures when she is older. But in the end I am glad she is ok and we love her so much!!!
