Lexi has a fever...

Last night when I fed Lexi I thought she felt exceptionally hot but I just thought it was a little warm in our house and brushed it off. This morning she was still very hot so I took her temperature and it was 99.7. This is higher than normal but not a fever. I didnt really think she was acting to out of the ordinary but later on in the day she started getting pretty fussy and even hotter. I took her temperature again and it was 101.7. For someone her age this is a pretty good fever. I called the Dr. and they had me bring her in right away. I thought it was just a fever and they would just say give her Tylenol and take her home but the Dr came in and said it was an infection and they needed to run all these tests to see what it was.

They started with a catheter to get a urine sample to see if she had a Urinary tract infection. The Dr did that test and confirmed the high white blood cell count was what caused Lexi to have a fever. I was a wreck while this was happening. When the Dr. mentioned there is a chance she need to be admitted into the hospital, I lost it. I thought this was just a simple fever but it turned into a lot more. After the Drs we had to take her to the hospital and have her blood drawn to see if the infection got into her blood. This was the worst. I had to leave the room. She screamed so loud and there was nothing I could do for her. Next they had to stick tubes down her nose to check for Influenza. After all this we had to go back to the Drs and wait for the test results to determine if she needed to be admitted into the hospital or not. Since Lexi was still eating very good and wasnt dehydrated the Dr said she thought it was ok if we took her home with us but to watch her very carefully.

After we left Lexi finally was able to fall asleep and stay asleep. When we left the Drs her fever had broke and she was doing lots better. Now she is acting like her chipper old self. That was so scary for me. Even if it wasnt that big of a deal that she had a UTI it was hard for me to see my little girl go through all that. I felt so helpless. It just shows how much I love her and dont want anything bad to happen to her. We just have to go back to the Drs tomorrow and in a few weeks get an ultrasound for her kidneys. In the end Lexi is doing just fine now. She is a CHAMP!!!
